Passive solar design refers to the use of the sun's energy to heat and cool the living spaces in a home, utilizing the southern exposure to allow the sun to enter the home during the winter and warm it's interior.

Lake Junaluska NC

Our personal residence in North Carolina.  The south wall has barrels of water in cabinets for passive solar heat storage, plus a lot of glass and a sloping glass roof section. The west and north sides have covered porches. It gets very bright and warm in the winter. It is protected from the summer sun by deciduous trees. Passive solar really works, and makes a warm bright home. We truly love that about our home.
